Puff Braids

I thought this one was pretty self-explanatory, so I didn't take a million pictures like all my other posts. This would also work on a girl who doesn't have much hair, or her hair is really short.
The best way to do this is when the hair is slightly damp. I parted it on the side, trying to keep the elastics as even as possible.
I curled her hair to finish it off.

People always ask how I get her curls to stay all day. The cue is "dirty" hair. We've all heard it before. But since I bathe her in the mornings, I blow dry her hair, add polmade & curl it in sections (bottom, middle & top). Before I curl each section, I spray her hair with hair spray to make it "dirty". Then I curl away. I spray again once I've curled one section. Repeat with each section.

Inside-Out French Braids

(If you don't know how to do this french braid, remember you can click on the utube link that I provided for a demo.)

Start by parting the hair straight down the middle. Like always, I clip the side I am not working on out of the way.

Braid away. I like to go down a little further, just to make sure I get all the hair in.

Do the other side now & put an elastic in about the same place.

Then, bring the braids together (I always cross mine, they look nicer) & put an elastic in. Take the other elastics out & unbraid up to the new elastic. Put another elastic in but don't pull the hair all the way through this time. My daughter has a natural curl so it automatically goes over the pony tail with a little help of hair spray. If your daughter's is not like this, you could do a quick curl to make it stay over the pony.

Top Knots

Okay, so she kinda looks like a geisha. LOL. Oh well - we'll bring an asian theme to our do today.

Section the hair into 3 different sections. The left side, middle & right side. I like to clip the left & right sides out of the way, so I am only working on one section at a time. I start with the middle section & part near the bottom & clip the rest up. Put that part into an elastic.

Make your way up, doing the puff braid & put your next elastic in. I had a picture for this but accidentally deleted it, but you will see in the next picture.

So, do your third elastic & this is what it looks like. Leave the top & do the same things to the side, with the parts all matching.

Wrap the hair on top into little buns & holding with an elastic. I added the same ric-rac that I used last week

For those of you who have never round brushed before...

...here's a little mini lesson for you. It was hard without having someone else take pictures, so I'll try to explain the best I can.


Brush the hair & part it. Blow dry it until it is ALMOST dry. Don't dry it all the way.
I round brush her hair in 3 sections:bottom, middle & top layers. I start at the bottom & clip the rest up, as shown in the picture. I like to take the blow dryer to it again just before I start round brushing to make it a little more dry.
Start closest to the head & make your way down, with the blow dryer following (obviously couldn't show you the blow dryer because I don't have 3 hands)

Do this all around the bottom layer until it is completely dry.

Let the middle section down & clip the top up. Begin round brushing this layer until it is completely dry.

Finally, let the top layer down, or all of the hair, & round brush it until all of the hair has been round brushed & is totally dry now.

I like to add a little polmade & you are finished. You don't need a curling iron to curl the ends. By round brushing, it gives the hair volume & curls it.

Zig-zag into a Curly Pony

Make sure her hair is damp. Do a zig-zag part, adding elastics along the way.

Pull the remainder of the hair into a pony tail.

Spray the hair before you start so the curls hold better. Curl away. I used a curling iron this time. After you are done curling, make sure you spray the curls to really keep the curl all day.

A braid with a twist

First, I have to show you all these darling bows. It is coordinating ribbon tied around a hair elastic. Pretty clever, right? Super easy to make.

I started by parting the hair off to the side & putting it into rubber band. This will go into the right side of the pony.

I LOVED to do this on her when she didn't very much hair & it was hard to keep her hair in a pony tail. It keeps all that under hair into the pony tail by the end of the day.

Part the hair down the middle, & pull the pig tail that you are not working on, out of the way. Part the side you are working on (the right in this case) & part it horizontally. I like to clip the top part up so it is out of my way. Smooth the lower part into a pony.
Add the lower part into the top to make a piggy tail. Do the same to the other side.

Braid the pony tail, but leave out a chunk of hair. After you have braided the hair, twist the chunk left out & twist it. Wrap it around the braid evenly until you are at the bottom.

This is what it should look like after you have wrapped the hair around the braid. Do it to the other side.
