updo

Over the weekend, it was senior ball & a darling girl in my ward asked if I would help her with her hair. Her hair is short - above the shoulders & she said she usually wears it down. So we immediately thought let's change it up & see if we can pull it all up. I can't take all the credit for this. My very creative sister happened to be over & was more than happy to help. & guess what? She wore it to church the next day & it still looked perfect!!

Sorry I didn't post step by step directions but it's pretty easy. You could actually do this on long or fine hair too. (my pictures are backwards & I'm of course too lazy to switch:)

We waved the hair all over with a 3 barrel iron. Then twisted the bangs & pinned them back. Next, starting at the oppiste side her bangs were at, we started twisting the hair, strands at a time & securing each strand with a bobby pin (these bobby pins are visible - if you have thicker or longer hair - you could hide them better) Continue twisting strands until all the hair is up. This kept all those baby hairs underneath secured nicely all night long.

We kind of poofed the top so you could see the wave & it looked more full. We finished with a loose bun from the ends left over & added a cute flower. How easy to do on yourself even? & we didn't use any elastics - only some good ol' hairspray & bobby pins.

Of course - pictures never do it justice.

& BTW - thanks for all the birthday wishes to my girlie!! You guys are all so sweet!

Where have I been???

Wow!! Where has the time seriously gone? Life has just been crazy, crazy!! I keep thinking it's going to slow down this week - but it only gets worse. We are getting ready to go to Costa Rica next week so I've been trying to get lots done before we leave, which includes a project for Super Saturday that is like the next day we get home & I started teaching piano this fall & my little girlie is in preschool & the mornings (even though she leaves at 11:) we just don't have time to sit & take pictures - so there you have it. But I promise - I'm still around!! I actually have a couple hairdos that I have ready to post - it's just the "getting around to it" part that's hard. I know people are waiting for a new post so here's something VERY VERY quick that hopefully anyone can do:

Part the hair on the side. French braid just a few strands down on one side (if you aren't very good at french braiding or dont' know how, just do a regular braid - it would work just as well)
The other side, you are going to twist. Don't put an elastic in just yet!!
Bring the braid over so that it is on the side - not middle (kinda hard to tell in this picture but it is more on the side) Take the elastic out for the braid so you only have one elastic holding them both together.
I just curled the hair & added a bow. How fast is that??? But just kind of fun with it being 2 different braids on the sides. Here is a side view of the french braid.

I'm so sorry I haven't posted or been answering people's questions. Life is just crazy & my little girlie started preschool this week where she is gone Mon - Thurs 11-4. So hopefully with her being gone during the day I'll find time to post more often. I will try & answer your questions & emails this week too for those who have left them.

Here's todays post:

I started by putting elastics around the top of the crown - making sure not to go down too far because you will be adding some elastics underneath this. If your girly has thinner hair, do all of it up - instead of half up/half down. My girl's hair would be too thick to do this.
Do a row right below.
Next, start on one side & twist over your hair around each other (like shown in previous posts - scroll down til you see how to). Stop once you get to the middle one & do the other side, stopping in the middle once again.
Here's what it looks like once you've twisted both sides.
Pull all into a pony tail (half up pony tail:)

I just did a flower bun to finish the pony tail off but you could do whatever you wanted. I have people ask if I would show how to do a flower bun - if you click on "buns" on the label list to the right & scroll down until you see flower bun & the directions are there. I just quickly curled what was down.
I tied a bow & stuck it onto a bobby pin & just slipped it into the hair.
Front view - her silly face
& that's it!! BTW have any of you guys seen the little bobby pins they sell at good ol' Wal-Mart now. LOVE them - they are little, perfect for my little girl & are tight!! Go check them out - right next to where the other bobby pins are.

I'm back

I'm back from my little 2 week vacation spending time with my family. So that means back to reality...sigh. Oh well- school starts soon & fall is right around the corner so we have lots to look forward to. I know I'm constantly posting side ponies - but I just love them. They are too cute.

Here's another side pony:
Start by splitting the hair about 2/3 of the way down, right in half. Add 5 elastics evenly on the bottom.
Twist them all together. You have to split each of the ponies in half so it can be part of a twist on each side (except the end pieces - I didn't divide them at all) So you come out with 5 twisted ponies.
Going off of my part (which I slanted - again I LOVE slanted parts too:), I sectioned off the rest of the hair into a pony right in the middle of the first 2 lower piggies. Include the twist into the pony above.
Do your next section, adding the twist from below. After I added that elastic, I brought over the piece from the left side & added another elastic so I have a section that is not only coming up, but going across. Do it all the way through. On the last section, I brought all the hair into the side pony.
Curl the pony & add a cute bow & you're finished!!

time for another FANCY NANCY party

We've had fun going to all the Fancy Nancy birthday parties - but I've had more fun thinking of a fancy do to go along with it.
I know. I know. She's naked but I tried to crop it & it won't upload what I cropped - even though it shows it's cropped in my folder. I tried not to get too much of her. We didn't want to get her dress on yet - so here's a bad mom moment.

I parted the hair on the side. Then I parted 3 slanted parts going from the side part to the ear & twist. I added an elastic to hold the twist (because once I got away from the base of the head - I turned it into a corkscrew twist) & then bobby pinned it in place while finishing my twists. Do 3 twists on each side.
Bring all the hair into a pony tail. I kind of pulled one twist from each side at a time so that I could make sure the twist was still twisted tight & good.
Now that we have our pony, I did a corkscrew twist just all over randomly in the pony.
Now, curl all the straight pieces that aren't in the twists.
Pin all the curls & all the twists to give a fun updo.
We added our must have spray glitter because she feels like she has to wear it anytime we do a fancy do or are going to a party. It does add a lot though.

We finished it off with a cute little tiara.

Twist Downs

This was super easy!! It's like doing a french braid but twisting instead. You just twist your piece while adding the pieces from the sides to make your way down.
Start at the top with on section, start twisting.

Start adding pieces from the sides to match along the same way of the twist.

Okay - for some reason - this is sideways even though I flipped it. But I don't have time to mess around with it right now so next time I'll make sure it's the right way:) Do both sides & when you get to the end of one, I added an elastic & then pinned it so the twist wouldn't let loose. Do the other side the same & bring them together with an elastic of course taking out the pins from holding it previously.

Again, another flopped picture, but you get the idea. Add a bow to the end & spray to hold & you are finished!!

A Fancy UpDo

My little girlie went to a Fancy Nancy party last week & got to dress up in fancy clothes so I decided she had to have fancy hair with it.
Start by sectioning out the hair & twisting it straight back. Add a bobby pin going forward to secure it.
Go all the way around the head, sectioning, twisting & adding your pins. Then pull it all into a pony tail.
Start to pin the hair by doing the flower bun.  But leave a portion out so that it hangs down underneath.
I blow dried & curled what was hanging down
For her ribbon, I tied a bow & then put the bobby pin through the middle of it & insert it in the hair where you want it to go.
Add the ribbon & spray to hold. We added glitter in her hair for some extra "fanciness".

Low Pony

I parted the hair down the middle. This doesn't have to be perfect - just kind of loose looking. I twisted one half of the pony tail.
Twist the other half, also.
Bring them together in a pony tail with an elastic.
Grab a piece from the pony & wrap it around the elastic so you can't see the elastic.
I use a clear elastic at the very bottom of the wrap to hold it in. It works great & you can pull the hair down over the clear elastic to cover it up.
You can curl the pony or just leave it as is.
