fish tail/messy buns

Hope you guys all had happy holidays & are now back into the "normal"swing of things. We just got back from Disneyland last week which was just a cherry on top to end our holidays. Now back to reality.

As I was doing this, I was thinking it would be really cute to do these little messy buns on a girlie with short hair or even just leaving them as piggies. My girlie's hair is getting so long that messy buns aren't just quite as cute as they used to be.
Start by dividing the front part of hair in 3 sections
FISH TAIL braid each of those ponies. It is a little bit harder fish tail braiding smaller pieces of hair - if you can't do it or don't have the time to do it, just do a regular braid or cork screw twist. Or you could leave it straight (especially if her hair is shorter)
After you have braided all three ponies, pull into pony tail directly behind the first 3 ponies including the braids in it.
I only did half way so that I could do 2 more piggies below. divide the hair however you feel, I wanted 5 messy piggies so this is how I divided it:
Turn each piggie into messy buns. Or you could curl them & put into messy buns or jsut leave them straight.
finished
We added a bow in the middle & it just wasn't doing it for me. Maybe a ribbon on each one would look cute.

Fish Tail Flip

Start by sectioning the front of the hair where you will start the fish tail braid.
You are going to fish tail braid the hair & pull the pieces from the sides (like you would a french braid) instead of just the sectioned part. It's super easy. Just pull a piece from the side & cross it over, continuing until you've gone down as far as you want.
This is what it should look like. Section it off with an elastic.
Pull the rest into a pony, including the fish tail. FISH TAIL BRAID the pony tail.
Flip it up & secure with an elastic, having the ends stick out of it.
I added some ribbon & then sprayed the ends with there stick out & rolled the hair over my fingers to give it a flipped look with the ends (instead of having to pull out my curling iron). That's all there is to it.

This is just ponies with different braids, but you could do them all the same type of braid if you aren't sure how to do anything else.
Pull just the front back & do a tuck under knot.
From the pony of the tuck under knot, do different braids. I did a twist braid, normal braid & fish tail braid.
Pull it all into a low pony tail. Section the hair & do different braids in the pony. I did the same as above.
I added a bow to the top but with or without one looks cute.
& that's it!! Pretty quick & simple!

Side Fish Tail

If you don't remember how to fish braid, you can click on the link to the right that says Fish Tail Braids & it explains how on both posts.
Start by dividing the hair in 3 sections & add your elastics.
Begin fish tail braiding the first section. Once you get to the middle section, begin including it into your braid (remember to divide the 2nd section in half too). When you start adding the sections together, make sure you grab hair from the 2nd section into the 1st so that they connect. That's what hold it together. Once you get to the third section, just add your elastic so it ends in a side pony.
Curl the pony & add your cute bow. & that's all there is to it!

Remember Fish Braids?

Do you remember fish braids? I used to love them. But they really do take forever to do, with all the small pieces you add to it. So I did it this way - so it is much quicker.
Start by making your pigtails. Then divide one side of the pigtail in half.

From the right side of the half, grab a small piece. Grab it from the very back of that half. This is where you will always grab your pieces from. You'll see as you go, that if you do not, then you'll have a big chunk you'll need to bring forward & you want small pieces.

Take that small piece and take it over to the left side.
Now, grab a small piece from the left side (same way - back, top)

& take it over to the right side. Do this all the way down. You are fish braiding!!
Stop wherever you would like to and put a rubberband to hold it.
Go down aways & add another rubberband, so there is no braid in this area. Then start the fish braid over again.
Go all the way down until you reach the ends of the hair. Do both sides the same.
